Beads of Courage

GUIDELINES

The "Beads of Courage" is an outreach program for children with cancer. The program, "Beads of Courage", is designed to honor the challenging journey that these children take while experiencing cancer and related treatments. Through the program the children are given certain beads to represent certain procedures. The collection of beads become a symbol of their courage and serve to honor milestones they have achieved along their treatment path. Throughout their treatment they can use their "Beads of Courage" to visually show and tell family and friends of their experiences of courage!

The focus of this program is to promote the well-being of children coping with serious illness, and their families, by strengthening resilience-based protective processes. Beads of Courage, Inc. achieves its mission through the development and implementation of evidence-based supportive care programs in children's hospitals across the nation.

The Houston Society of Glass Beadmakers (HSGB) is passionate about supporting the Beads of Courage program. Presently, we are involved in a challenge to produce the most purple hearts among other lampworking groups in the U.S. Also, we have challenged our group to produce bright and colorful bumpy beads to send to this wonderful organization.
